If the idea of heating anything is too much for you to handle then look no further than a fool. A fool is a simple summer dessert using nothing more than berries and whipped cream. Both foolishly easy and foolproof, this dessert can be ready in minutes and always tastes delicious.
Berry Fool Instructions
- First, macerate your fruit. Place 1 pound of sliced and hulled strawberries or raspberries into a small bowl with 1/4 cup of sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir and let sit until the berries release their juices, 15 – 30 minutes.
- Macerate blueberries in a separate bowl if you’d like a traditional ‘red, white and blue’ dessert for the Fourth of July. Cutting a small ‘x’ in the blueberries helps their juices release.
- Add one cup of heavy cream to a mason jar with 1 Tbsp. of sugar. Screw the lid on tightly and shake until soft peaks form, usually around 5 minutes. (This is a great activity to assign a child, however, keep a close eye. Sometimes they get carried away and make butter).
- Layer the whipped cream and fruit into glasses and serve.
