Episode 6: Fudge and Special Guest Ann Lundholm

The episode kicks off with Andrea remembering the Parker House rolls she made for Thanksgiving from a Bobby Flay recipe. Stefin upped the ante when she revealed she stayed in the Parker House Hotel in Boston on her honeymoon! What better way to start married life than with a basket full of warm bread?!

The Happy People Fudge recipe from Donna Bishop was reviewed and it was confirmed: indeed, the recipe makes people (especially the hosts) very happy. If you’ve always been afraid of fudge, this is the recipe you need to try. It’s silky smooth, easy, glossy, and delicious! Both Andrea and Stefin agree the nuts are a necessary addition, although the recipe says they are optional. This fudge is also a great gift to mail. By the way, the super cute Season’s Greeting pie card in the photo is from artist Nikki McClure and available in a 10-pack from the BuyOlympia website.

Next up is the cookie challenge! Andrea shared a Soft and Chewy Molasses Ginger cookie, while Stefin shared her “healthy” (think whole wheat flour) Almond Butter Blossoms. Andrea is prepping for her Second Annual Cookie workshop weekend, where she’ll make loads of rolled sugar and gingerbread cookies. Stefin plans on making her “Joe Froggers,” a traditional New England cookie, and is also thinking about testing out some Chocolate Bourbon Fudge Balls from Southern Living.

Special guest Ann Lundholm joined the show from her baking headquarters, the Stick of Butter Studios. She shared memories from her favorite cookbook, the Betty Crocker Cooky Cookbook (1963 edition please!) Betty Crocker Cooky Bookand Stefin knew EXACTLY which photo Snack Tableshe was referencing from the book. If you want to try “The Cake” (as Ann’s besotted co-workers call it) visit the Smitten Kitchen website and check out the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake recipe. To listen to Ann’s podcast, you can find her over at The Little Red Bandwagon.

Our hosts finally wrapped up with some packing and mailing tips for your holiday goodies. If you’ve never tried using Priority Mail service from USPS, now’s the time. You can order holiday boxes online, for free, and have them delivered directly to your door. You can also print your shipping labels from home, and schedule a pickup right at your doorstep. We encourage you to try mailing some holiday goodies to friends and family across the country!

  1. I am a dedicated listener, have not missed an episode yet. It is such a fun way to spend an hour !! I think I might try making the Parker House rolls. Andrea and Stefin…..keep up the good work. If I try very many of these delicious recipes, I may just have to ditch the bathroom scales.
