It’s Greatest Hits month and the good memories just keep on coming. Stefin recalls Episode 38, the first episode recorded from her new home in London. Straight from her kitchen counter perched on top of an IKEA box, she taught Andrea an elegant and appealing new term for potlucks. Garden party, anyone? Both hosts agree that with over 200 episodes and perhaps over 400 recipes reviewed, there’s never an excuse to run out of ideas.
With Halloween right around the corner, Stefin has her eye on the Monster Eye Cake from Carrie at TheCakeBlog.com. Andrea loves Listener Brad’s obsession with a flaming ghost cake from Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys and Girls, which Listener Christine actually made as a child! (Spoiler alert: she found it rather underwhelming.) Finally, if you’re looking for a healthier Halloween treat, consider the Poached Pear Ghosties from beloved grocery store Waitrose.
Andrea’s Greatest Hit: London Fog Shortbread from Oleander and Palm
Andrea fondly recalls Episode 61 along with the adventure of making this unusual shortbread and exploring the tea aisles of her local tea shop, Encore Teas and Chocolates. She especially enjoyed finding the vibrantly colored Cream Earl Grey tea, which includes vanilla. Stefin enjoys rolling the shortbread thicker than recommended in the recipe while Andrea likes adding a tiny bit of salt or using salted butter. Andrea loves this recipe so much, she modified it to make Orange Cardamom shortbread using cardamom and Fiori di Sicilia from King Arthur Flour. Another favorite way of playing with this shortbread is to make a cocoa version.

Listener Greatest Hits
Listener Clark submitted Happy People Fudge as a favorite recipe, and he’s certainly not alone. This recipe from Donna Bishop has delivered happiness to so many people and it has busted the mythology that fudge must be difficult and tricky to make. The fudge is easy and produces a glossy, gorgeous candy that’s sturdy and easy to ship and gift. Thanks to The Olympian for profiling Preheated and the Happy People Fudge in a video in December 2019. Consider making some now or for National Fudge Day on June 16!
Happy People Fudge Carrot Cake Coffee Cake
Listener Andrea is fond of the Carrot Cake Coffee Cake from Pinch of Yum featured in Episode 152. Host Andrea thinks the Carrot Cake Coffee Cake is the classic definition of a “counter cake” as defined by Shauna Sever. It’s the perfect simple one-layer cake to make and leave on the counter, to be sliced off throughout the week and enjoyed any time of day.
